Dear Dr. Radulovacki:
I am writing to thank you for the outstanding Yugoslav students whom you have brought to the Department of Genetics over the past 3 years. In each year, these students have been at the top of the class in their formal courses, and they have performed superbly as they have moved into their dissertation research.
This year one of the newly entering Yugoslav students was the top student in a graduate school course that I taught in the fall. I have asked our Graduate Student Committee to use that student as the standard for future recruitment efforts. It would be a pleasure to have an entire class of students operating at that level.
I am aware that you do not have an external source of funds for your recruiting trips to Yugoslavia. We are very eager to keep this pipeline of superb students open, and I would be pleased to commit funds from my department for your future trips if that would be helpful. I also believe that this commitment of funds would serve as a concrete indication of how much we value your efforts in bringing superb students from Yugoslavia to our department.
I look forward to hearing from you as to what we may contribute to help subsidize your future trips.
Sincerely yours,
Richard L. Davidson, Ph.D.
